Corinne Catherine Cox Stevenson, widow of James Harold Stevenson, dean emeritus of the College of Science and Mathematics at Arkansas State University, died peacefully at her home on May 14, surrounded by family. She was 98. Born in the Boughton Community in Nevada County, Arkansas, on January 4, 1914, she was the daughter of Joseph Levi and Mollie Gertrude Baker Cox and was one of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death. Her siblings were Gordon Felix Cox, Moncrief Frisby Cox, Bessie Pearl (Betsy) Cox Buchanan, George Hershell Cox, James Lee Cox, Walter Ray Cox, and Lill Cox Caldwell. Survivors are her daughters Mary Kay Stevenson Sullivan and husband Dr. William Sullivan of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Sara Ann Stevenson Felton and husband Dan Felton III of Felton, Arkansas. She is also survived by five grandchildren, William Ross Sullivan, Jr. and wife Carey of Alexandria, Virginia; Lawson McGhee Sullivan Vicario of Greenville, South Carolina; Dr. Daniel Henry Felton IV and wife Josephine of Little Rock; James Stevenson Felton of Medellin, Colombia; and Catherine Ruth Felton Kelly and husband Alex of Charlotte, North Carolina; and eight great-grandchildren, Will and Sarah Sullivan, Ross and Corinne Vicario, Josephine and Mary Eleanor Felton, and Bonner and Gardner Kelly. Mrs. Stevenson was a graduate of what is now Henderson State University and later attended Duke University where she met her husband. They were married for 69 years before his death in 2009. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving in a number of leadership roles including state regent and national Vice President General. She helped begin numerous new DAR chapters and was honored with a lifetime achievement award by the Arkansas Society. She was a donor to a number of patriotic organizations and funded a scholarship award for a graduating student at the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and of First Presbyterian Church, Jonesboro. Mrs. Stevenson was an enthusiastic genealogist, researching family historical records in courthouses across the Southeast and coauthoring a book, Index to Wills & Administrations, in 1986. She traced her lineage back to William Coxe, who arrived in Virginia in 1610. She took great pleasure in helping others to research their family roots. Corinne Stevenson was an avid gardener and found great joy in working in her garden until shortly before her death. She was a spirited and spunky individual who touched the lives of many people and left a legacy of faith, service, devotion, and love for family, friends, God, and country. The family wishes to extend gratitude to Mrs. Stevenson's caregivers: Joyce Sims, Sara Lesley, and Dean Hodgkiss. Also deepest appreciation goes to the compassionate employees of Extended Family Home Health Agency and to Peggy and Mike Hanks. The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 19. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. at the church with graveside services to follow.
