Corbin Link "Bill" Cross, 85, of Haynesville, Louisiana, passed away May 18, 2012, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born January 29, 1927 in Herpel, Arkansas, to Walter and Clara (Condrey) Cross. He and his wife Hazel have been married for 66 years and have recently moved to Haynesville from the Herpel Community near Mountain View, Arkansas where they lived in retirement. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Hazel Satterwhite Cross of Haynesville, La.; one daughter, Gail and husband Tommy Reeder of Haynesville, La.; one son, Doug and wife Cindy Cross of Wildwood, Mo.; sisters, Rae Bright of Wickett, Texas and Mollie Marsalis of Corpus Christie, Texas; grandchildren Scott and Carlin Reeder of Benton, La.; Kim and Jon Gillette of Cottleville, Mo.; Matt and Kelley Reeder of Haynesville, La.; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Jolley and J.T. Reeder of Haynesville, La.; Blaine and Peyton Reeder of Benton, La.; and Dylan and Ben Gillette of Cottleville, Mo. He was a respected healthcare leader in Arkansas and a successful administrator during his distinguished career. He served as the Administrator of Hempstead County Memorial Hospital, Hope, Arkansas, CEO of Rebsamen Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Arkansas, and as the Administrator of Woodruff County Hospital in McCrory, Arkansas. He was elected Chairman of the Arkansas Hospital Association in 1984, served on several state healthcare committees and was a member of numerous professional organizations. He served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in Japan and the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He joined the Arkansas National Guard in 1951 and completed OCS training and received his commission as an officer. He returned to military service in 1961 in the Berlin Crisis and was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. with the Heber Springs unit of the Arkansas National Guard. He was a member of Herpel Baptist Church and served as a deacon there and at Garret Memorial Baptist Church in Hope, Ark. and Landmark Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Ark. He indulged his passion for hunting and fishing at Tate's Bluff Gun Club in Chidester, Ark., and for golf at courses throughout the country. There will be a celebration service of his life May 20, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church of Shongaloo, La. at 2 p.m. and at Herpel Missionary Church of Mountain View, Ark. on May 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bill's name to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 683 Main St., Haynesville, La. 71038.
