HAROLD RIVERS HALEY SR., of Little Rock, retired buyer and salesman with Commercial Lumber Company, passed away, Sunday, May 20, 2012, at age 94. He was born in Rondo, Ark. on Sept. 12, 1917 to Lavert Rivers Haley and William N. Haley. The family moved to Little Rock in 1920. He served his country in World War II, from 1940 until the end of the war, spending four years overseas in North Africa and Italy, earning 10 Bronze Service Stars. He was a Deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church, a Gideon, a member of the Pinnacle Sunday School Class, and a member of the Tele-Bible Class, United Commercial Travelers, the Last Man's Club and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Madge Cary of Little Rock and Toistine Hunt of Tulsa, Okla. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Alberta Seymour Haley; son, Harold R. Haley Jr.; granddaughter, Leigh Haley Grugett (Lee); two great-grandsons, Ryan and Jake of Franklin, Tenn.; niece, Nancy H. Wirth (Warren) of Tulsa, Okla.; nephew, Dr. Lindsay Hunt of Midlothian, Va. His ready smile and quick humor will be missed by his family, special family friend, Ruth Victory; and Riley, his special 4-legged friend. Graveside services will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Park, 7401 Hwy 5 N., Little Rock at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2012, followed by a memorial service at Immanuel Baptist Church Chapel, 501 North Shackleford, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Gary Hollingsworth and Reverend Rick Jaggars officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members from Pinnacle Sunday School Class. Family will receive friends following the service. The family would like to express deep appreciation to doctors and nurses at UAMS, Presbyterian Village, and Hospice Home Care, during this long, difficult journey.
