Harold Thomas Young

Harold Thomas Young, born September 9, 1914 in Carlise, Arkansas to Charles and Lula Roush Young. He passed away at DeWitt City Hospital on May 21, 2012. Harold is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Dessie Young, eight brothers: twin brother Carol, Curtis, Delmas, Ray, Clarence, Edward, Olt, and John Robert Young, and one sister, Hazel Thomas. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in DeWitt since June 15, 1947. He was very active in his church and Sunday school where he attended regularly until ill health prevented him from doing so. He was a veteran of World War II where he was a master sergeant serving in the U.S. army. He was a charter member of the DeWitt Chamber of Commerce, where he served in many ways. In 2004 he was made honorary president. He was also an active member of the DeWitt Lion's Club for the blind for 54 years.  He was active in weekly meeting and selling light bulbs for the yearly fund raiser and white elephant sale. He was an active in Boy Scouts, helping to organize Scout Troop #81 in DeWitt. In 1965 he was awarded the Silver Beaver award for distinguished service to boy hood, a member of advisory committee of executive Board Quapaw area council in 1970. He was a member of the American Legion for 60 years. He was in the retail business on the court square in DeWitt for more than 60 years. He sold furniture, appliances, T.V., floor coverings, clothing, fabrics, shoes, and flowers. He is survived by his wife, Inda Wood Sieber Young of DeWitt, a step-son, Lester Sieber, Stuttgart, that he loved like his own; two precious grandchildren, Jessica Sieber, Stuttgart, and Casey Sieber, DeWitt; two sisters-in-law, Carole (Amos) Carver-Gentry, Evelyn (HT) Theis, Conway; four brothers-in-law, Johnny (Joan) Wood, Stuttgart, Delano (Dixie), Springdale, Walter Trussel, DeWitt, John Carl Keaton, DeWitt; six nieces, Betty Flow Elder, Carlise, Sandra Hart, Carlise, Barbara (Dub) Hamric, Hazen, Cynthia Beavers, North Little Rock, Sherry (Kent) Barbee, Longview, Texas, Ruby (Herb) Ackley, Nashville, Ark., and several great-nephews and nieces and many friends. Visitation will be May 22, 2012, 6-8 p.m. at Essex Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 2 p.m. with burial at DeWitt Cemetery.
