Betty Jeane Sawrie, 86, of North Little Rock, Ark., joined the Church Triumphant on May 28, 2012, and is now rejoicing in the presence of her Savior. Mrs. Sawrie was born January 24, 1926, in Inman, Kan., to Frank and Katherine (Ratzlaff) Quiring. Throughout her life, she served as a bank teller, the secretary to the superintendent of the Newton (Kans.) Public Schools, and an assistant elementary school librarian in several locations in the Little Rock Public Schools. Mrs. Sawrie was a long-time member of Brockington Road Church of the Nazarene in Sherwood, Ark., where she is remembered as a loving Sunday School teacher, former local Nazarene Missions International (NMI) president, and a spiritual mentor of many men and women for more than 40 years. In recent years, she was a faithful member of the Harmony Sunday School Class. Her passion for missions and ability with numbers led her to serve the South Arkansas District NMI as district NMI treasurer for more than 20 years. Mrs. Sawrie is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Frank Williams of Newton, Kan., her second husband, Walter Franklin Sawrie of North Little Rock, Ark.; and a sister, Rose Rogers of Newton, Kan. Betty Sawrie is survived by daughter, Diana (Williams) Macklin and her husband, Harold, of Cabot, Ark.; daughter Elnora Fairless of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and daughter Gail Sawrie of Raytown, Mo.; granddaughter, Brooke Macklin; and grandson, Todd Fairless; two sisters, Erma Prentiss of Bethany, Okla., and Marcella Rogers of Newton, Kan.; two brothers, Frank Quiring Jr. of Olathe, Kan., and Don Quiring of Newton, Kan.; many other family members and a host of friends. The funeral will be at 10 a.m., June 2, at Griffin Leggett-Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, Ark., (501) 835-3515. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., June 1, at Griffin Leggett-Rest Hills. Interment will be at Pine Crest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Myeloma Institute at UAMS or the World Evangelism Fund of the Church of the Nazarene (send checks to the General Treasurer with the notation "In memory of Betty Sawrie for WEF."
