JAMES WILLIAM MEEK, 80, of North Little Rock, Ark., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Northridge Healthcare and Rehab Center in North Little Rock. He was born on Dec. 23, 1931, in Mulberry, Ark., to the late William Homer and Sibyl Marlar Meek. Jim grew up in Alma and attended Arkansas State Teacher's College (UCA), in Conway, for one year then joined the United States Navy serving in the Korean War. He returned to ASTC and graduated with a B.S.E. in 1958. He taught at Darby Junior High in Fort Smith before going into sales, for over 20 years, with Integon Insurance Corporation and Southern Life. Jim was a member of Alma Masonic Lodge No. 735, Elks Lodge No. 1004, VFW Post No. 11474, and was a Methodist. Jim had a passion for singing beginning in college with The Four Jacks. He continued to sing at various venues throughout his life. Jim was an avid fan of WWII Military History, Big Band music, antique cars, boating, and the Razorbacks. He enjoyed his non-speaking role as a character actor in "Come Early Morning" filmed in North Little Rock. Jim frequently could be seen around town in a hat from his large collection. Jim's quick wit and humor made him a friend to everyone. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Rebecca Sanders Meek; daughter, Susan Rebecca Meek, of Fayetteville; son, David William Meek and partner, David Peters of Dallas; brother, John Meek (Alma), of Oklahoma City; brother-in-law, Ted Sanders (Nancy), of Mountain Home; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his cat. A special thanks to the nursing staff of UAMS and Northridge. Memorial services will be held at Roller Owens, 5509 J.F.K. Blvd., (501-791-7400) on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Miles Cook of Park Hill Christian Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
