MARGUERITE MARY STULB LOFTUS died peacefully at her home in Maumelle, Ark., surrounded by family on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012. Born to Joseph and Gabrielle Stulb on March 4, 1924, in Jersey City, N.J., she graduated from Henry Snyder High School in 1941. In 1956 she married the love of her life, Air Force Pilot Francis (Frank) J. Loftus. They were stationed in Japan and at numerous bases throughout the U.S. After Frank's retirement from the AF in 1972, they settled in Austin, Texas. After Frank started a second career with EDS, they lived in Plano, Texas, and later in Little Rock, Ark. With their final retirement in 1992, they moved back to Austin and settled in Lakeway, Texas. In a loving relationship spanning 56 years, Margie and Frank were devoted to each other and were best friends. Each time the family moved and settled into a new place, Margie turned each house -- even base housing -- into a home for those she loved, including dear friends. She was an accomplished seamstress and spent many years volunteering at Birthright, the Little Rock Visitors Center, and Emmaus Parish in Lakeway. When Margie was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, she and Frank moved to Maumelle, Ark., where they were members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Marche. A devout Catholic, she lived her faith on a daily basis and, during her last days, that devotion was rewarded by the compassion of the Arkansas Hospice staff -- care-givers who stood with her in her beloved home. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Reverend Joseph Stulb of NJ, and sister, Therese Kuhles of Houston, Texas. Margie is survived by husband Frank; daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Michael Makowski of Davidsonville, Md.; son, Michael and his wife, Glenda of Maumelle, Ark.; three granddaughters who were her pride and joy, Michelle Loftus, Amy Loftus, and Elizabeth Loftus; brother, Robert Stulb of Middletown, N.J.; numerous nieces and nephews in New Jersey and Texas; and longtime friends across the nation. Her family and friends will greatly miss Margie's sweet temperament, sense of humor, and love of life. Friends may gather from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at Emmaus Catholic Church, 1718 Lohmans Crossing Road with Father Richard Tijerina, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Margie's memory to Alzheimer's Arkansas, 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, Ark. to help fight the terrible disease she fought so bravely for 10 years or Arkansas Hospice, www.arkansashospice.org/donations.htm who provided her with totally compassionate care during her last days. Condolences may be made at www.cookwaldenforestoaks.com. Arrangements under the care of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 W. William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749, (512) 892-1172.
