Stop by Little Rock Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. to celebrate the life of YELKA YVONNE "TINKY" OBERSTE. Born a coal miner's daughter in Jenkins, Ky. to Andrew Jackson Rife and Neva Chandler, Tinky spent her young life shuffled between relatives and boarding schools and longed for a life of stability and companionship. This she found in Little Rock with Ken Oberste, who was firmly planted in one zip code. She loved her family and long talks over tea with Barbara Baker, her best friend for over 60 years. In fact, Tinky never met a cup of tea she didn't love, never met a book too dense or incomprehensible for her incredible mind, or a crossword puzzle she couldn't tackle. In ink. She loved to travel across the globe with her husband and kids, and you couldn't beat her at Scrabble without tying her oxygen line in a knot. In addition to her parents, Neva and Jack, she is preceded in death by her little brother Jimbo and her half-siblings, Patsy and Corky. Tinky is survived by a huge loving brood of kids - Neva, Marleen, Chuck, Peggy, Dano and Denis, and their long suffering spouses - Pat, Terry, Mary Jo, Tracy and Elizabeth; grandchildren - Andrew, Sam, Kristen, Jackson, Moriah and Jillian; siblings - Joe, Ladybug and Mike. But most especially, she is survived by a loving husband, Ken, who doted on her until the very end. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, in the Chapel of Little Rock Funeral Home with Reverend Pat Barker officiating. Visitation will be Sunday night at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tinky's name to the Weekend Theater, 1001 West 7th Street, Little Rock, Ark. 72201, or the Mid-Southern Watercolorists, PO Box 2582, Little Rock, Ark. 72203. Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct., (501)224-2200 (NW Corner of I-630 and Barrow Rd). Tinky's online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
