Ava Lou Garrett

Ms. Ava Lou Garrett, age 72, of Baton Rouge, La., passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 in Baton Rouge, La. after a lengthy illness. Ms. Garrett was born, Dec. 3, 1940, in Prescott, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Ava Shell Garrett. Ms. Garrett was a member of Jefferson Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, La. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and Master's Degree in Education, in English and History from Henderson State Teachers College, Arkadelphia, Ark., and taught schools in Arkansas and Missouri. Ms. Garrett is survived by a sister, Rebecca Garrett Cox and husband, David of Baton Rouge, La., and a nephew, Garrett Matthew Cox of Los Angeles, Calif. Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott, with burial to follow at 10:30 a.m., at Harmony Cemetery, in Sutton, Ark. with Rev.
