Joe T. Smith of North Little Rock passed away Monday, August 5 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. Born January 24, 1931 to Stella and Abner Smith in Damascus, Ark., Joe graduated from Southside High School before serving 2 years in the Army in Korea. Joe married the love of his life, Mary Roslyn Smith on December 27, 1952 in Benton by Justice of peace and settled in North Little Rock to raise a family. Joe worked at Fischer Lime and Cement Company for 15 years before co-founding Apartment House Builders, Inc., Riverside, Inc., Associated Management, Ltd. and Metro Disaster Specialists. Joe served as partner and production manager for his companies for over 40years. His family was at the center of his life. Recalling the time spent with his children and grandchildren always brought a smile to his face and a twinkle to his eye. Whether travelling the world with Mary, or spending time with the grandkids at the lake, Joe's character and integrity was an example to his family. Joe was at his best spending an early morning on the lake with a fishing buddy, rod in hand. Famous for his fish frys, and at home behind either the wheel of a bass boat or in front of a deep fryer, nobody enjoyed catching, preparing and sharing a meal with family and friends more than Joe Smith. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife Mary, daughter, Mary Jo Stewart (Gary), and son, Danny of North Little Rock, grandchildren, Megan Boswell (Todd) of Little Rock, Britt Stewart (Jaclyn), Payton Smith (Katie), and Chelsea Smith (Matt) all of North Little Rock, three great-grandchildren, and a host of family and business friends. We would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Baptist CVICU, and the nurses on the 10th floor, for all the wonderful care during his stay there. We would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Erik Beyer and his staff for their care. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 JFK, North Little Rock, with the service to be Thursday, August 8 at 10 AM at Roller-Owens Funeral Home chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the Red Cross at P.O. Box 19051, Little Rock, Ark. 72219. Sign on line guest book: www.rollerfunerahomes.com/owens.
