Caroline L. Holmes

The Razorbacks lost a dedicated fan from the War Memorial Stadium North end zone seats when CAROLINE L. HOLMES, 85, of Little Rock, died peacefully in her home on the morning of Aug. 9, 2013. Caroline was born in Little Rock, Aug. 21, 1928. Guided by a life long love of learning and with a passion for teaching others, she went on to pursue a degree in math and physics with a graduate degree in math. She attended Randolph-Macon Women's College and the University of Texas, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa, for her undergraduate degree, and the University of Arkansas for her Master's degree. She taught advanced math at Little Rock Central High School, where she was an elected member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teaching honorary society, until her retirement. Besides her family and math, her other lifelong love was gardening which encompassed all things green whether a vegetable garden, a farmer's field or a hillside of jonquils in full bloom. She also enjoyed travel to the mountains of the US and Canada. When not outside in the gardens, she was an avid reader especially of mysteries. She was preceded in death by her father, Glen MacKenzie Holmes and her mother, Lucille Hardgrave Holmes. She is dearly loved and sadly missed by her two sisters, Patricia Thompson of Texarkana, Texas, and Jane Caulfield of Cornersville, Tenn. She lives on in the hearts of her nieces, Leslie McGinn, Cindy Osborne, Susan McNabb, Kim Caulfield and nephew, Tommy Thompson, and great nieces and nephews, Allyson McNabb, Patrick McGinn, Brennan McGinn, Douglas McNabb, John Michael McGinn, Jeff McNabb, and Ava Thompson. Her life was enriched by numerous friends, students and caring individuals, especially Phyllis Schakelford, Shelia Lindsey, Linise Phillips, Kim Hodges, Kaisha Davis, Malveta Nash, Bambi Phillips from the Northand Maxine Edmonds as well as numerous others. A Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, August 12 at Griffin, Leggett, Healey and Roth at 5800 W 12th Street. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 13 at Roselawn Memorial Park, 2801 Asher Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Central Arkansas Library System, Main Library, 100 South Rock Street, Little Rock, AR.
