Dewey Coleman Faught

Mr. Dewey Coleman Faught, age 78, passed into the arms of God on Saturday, August 10, 2013, surrounded by the love of family and friends. Mr. Faught was born on February 6, 1935 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was the son of the late Mack Dewey Faught and Thelma Faught of Bay, Arkansas and he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Margie Hutson and Joann Hill. Mr. Faught was an active member of Victory Baptist Church in Cabot, Arkansas and was retired from the Air Force and the Cabot Chamber of Commerce where he served as Executive Director, Secretary and Treasurer for over 22 years of dedication to the community that he loved. He graduated from Eudora High School in 1953 and attended Florida State University, Arkansas State University at Beebe and the University of Central Arkansas receiving a degree in Liberal Arts, Agriculture and studied Business Administration while at UCA. Mr. Faught retired in July 1974 as Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force after serving over 23 years of honorable service. A veteran of the Korean, Vietnam and cold war, he also served in the United States Navy as active reserve for over two years. As a career military man, he was a sustaining member of VFW Post #4584, a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, a member of the American Legion as well as a lifetime member of the Cabot Chamber of Commerce. He was awarded a plaque naming him as "Cabot Citizen of the Year" in 2001 and 2002 from the Michael W. Ray VFW Post 4548 Ladies Auxiliary. He proudly served as secretary and treasurer of the Cabot Lions club for over 19 years, and was President from 1999-2000. He holds many honors and certificates and was listed in the September 2000 International Lions Magazine "Higher Key" as well as a participating member of AARP. Mr. Faught was active in his church and many other organizations to include: Cabot's Citizen of the year in 1983, and Readers Choice for "The Community Leader Award" in 1999. He organized and spearheaded the construction of "The Cabot Veteran's Monument and Memorial" which lists the names of Veterans in Cabot, Austin and Ward that includes over 1000 names of Veterans from North Lonoke County, memorialized in three marble monuments. In 2002 he was named honoree of the 5th Roast and Toast by the Cabot Scholarship Foundation for his work in the community that he loved so much. In March 2000, Congressman Marion Berry provided the following tribute as an Honorable Mention in the U.S. House of Representatives that read: "Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to a man who is a dear friend of mine, Dewey Faught. Dewey Faught is a great American and a great Arkansan. He is the kind of citizen that made this nation the great place it is today. He has made Cabot a great place to work, live and raise a family. I am proud to call him my friend. Dewey has been married for 54 years to Jane Powell, formerly of Gillett, Arkansas and they have five sons, 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren". On April 6, 2000 Speaker of the House, Chief of Staff and Representative Randy Minton through the Eighty-Second General Assembly of the House of Representatives, awarded Mr. Faught "The State of Arkansas Citation", which recognized his principles of strong character, good citizenship and commitment to God and Country. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Jane Powell-Faught, five sons: Stephen Blain Faught (Teri) of Cabot; Brian Keith Faught (Stacy) of Jacksonville; Michael Dean Faught (Jessica) of Cabot; Bruce Allen Faught (Kary) of Cabot; and Neil Wade Faught (Thena) of Mayflower; 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation will be at Victory Baptist Church in Cabot on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. Military Memorial services will be held at Victory Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10 a.m., officiated by Reverend Ben Leonard. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Cabot, Arkansas. Arrangements are by Moore's Cabot Funeral Home and Crematory (501) 843-5816.
