Winston Gale Jones, age 92 of Searcy, died Monday, August 12, 2013 in Searcy. He was born June 4, 1921 in Sidon, Arkansas to Plez Jones and Myrtle Gibson Jones. Gale is survived by one daughter, Virginia Ann Buchanan of Hillsboro, Oregon; two sons, Robert Gale Jones of Gresham, Oregon, Terry Wayne Jones of Davenport, Iowa; one brother, Quimby Don Jones of Pangburn, Arkansas; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Gale was a 20 year US Navy veteran and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He belonged to various organizations including the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Eastern Star, and he was a Shriner. Gale has been a resident of Harding Place in Searcy for the past seven years, enjoying the fellowship of those in residence there. He was greatly loved and well known for his smiling face and great sense of humor. Often times he could be seen driving his scooter around the outside of the facility checking on the garden, visiting with other folks and enjoying the sunshine. Prior to moving back to Arkansas in 2006, he had lived in numerous states including Hawaii, California, Kansas, Illinois, New York, South Carolina and New Mexico. He loved living on Caballo Lake in New Mexico, enjoying the sunshine, fishing, and close friends with daily games of dominoes. Our special thanks go out to all the staff and residents at Harding Place for making his last remaining years a fun and comfortable place to live. Visitation will be Friday at 9 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home. A private, family only committal service will follow at Sidon Cemetery.
