Mildred Louise Slocum

Mildred Louise Swarner Slocum of Sheridan, Ark., was born June 29, 1926 in Natchez, Miss., the daughter of the late William Clark Swarner and Mabel Gardner Swarner. She was a former member of Oakcrest Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, and was a member of North Main Baptist Church in Sheridan, Ark. She was a homemaker and avid genealogist, holding membership in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Order of the First Families of Mississippi, The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, and The National Hugenot Society. Mrs. Slocum died on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 at the age of 87 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William David Slocum Sr., and her son, Thomas Clark Slocum. She is survived by her son, William David Slocum Jr. and his wife, Jane of Sheridan, Ark. Other survivors are her granddaughters, Laura Slocum Holt (Clint) and daughters, Hannah and Megan of Katy, Texas; Dr. Megan Slocum Witonski (Greg) and their children, David and Meredith of Benton, Ark.; and Sarah Slocum Collins and her husband, Ryan of Rogers, Ark. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 19, 2013 at Greenoaks Funeral Home in Baton Rouge. Burial will follow at the Greenoaks Memorial Park.
