Norma Jean Lyles, age 90, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013. She was born June 25, 1923 at Miami, Okla., a daughter of the late Lewis L. Zimmerman and Ada McGuffin Zimmerman. She graduated from Miami High School, and attended Oklahoma Baptist University for four years, where she met her husband, Carl Lyles. Her primary role in life was serving her family. After her children were grown, "Miss Norma" served the families of Pine Bluff by working in the South Side Baptist and Immanuel Baptist Day Care for a number of years. Even years later, she enjoyed seeing her "children" and they enjoyed seeing her. She loved people, and always had a smile on her face and a friendly word for everyone, and carried this on throughout her stay at White Hall Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Lyles was a long-time member of South Side Baptist Church, and the life of her church was always on her mind. Also predeceasing her are her husband; three brothers; an infant sister; and a son-in-law, William "Squeeky" Thrower. Survivors include four daughters, Rayma Hawkins (Keith) of Little Rock, Pamela Schwartz (Michael) of Richmond, Va., Cecilia Riggins (Billy) and Miriam Thrower, all of Pine Bluff; a sister, Erma Braswell of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Amy Riggins Reece (Timm), Keith D. Hawkins II, Katie Riggins Elliott (David), Dr. Ryan Thrower (Jamie), and Rebekah Thrower; and great-grandchildren, Bradley, Drew, Carson, and Morgan Reece, Caroline and Leah Thrower, and Lauren and Jake Elliott. Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 2, 11 a.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel with Dr. J. R. DeBusk officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 10 a.m. A special thank you is extended to the staff of White Hall Nursing and Rehab Center for their loving attention and care of Mrs. Lyles. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Meals on Wheels Program, in care of the United Way of Southeast Arkansas, 211 West 3rd Avenue, Pine Bluff, Ark. 71601.
