Mildred Juanita Forsee Laman

Mildred Juanita Forsee Laman, 95, of Little Rock, passed away December 1, 2013. She was born to James Elmer Forsee and Minnie Ola Patton Forsee on September 22, 1918 at Bauxite, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Norman E. Forsee; her first husband, Jack G. Hopkins; her stepson, David W. Laman; and her beloved husband of 50+ years, Willice (BF) F. Laman. She is survived by her two step-daughters, Serena M. Caruso of Portland, Oregon and Phyllis A. Laman of Vista, California; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She attended Bauxite schools and graduated in 1937. She worked during World War II at Parsons Store in Bauxite and later, in her father's neighborhood store in Benton. She attended Draughon Business School in Little Rock in 1950 and went to work for an insurance company in Little Rock in 1951. Later she went to work for Thomas Bates & Sons Construction Company that laid the concrete work for the construction of the Alcoa Arkansas Operations which began operating in 1952. She was hired by Alcoa on December 1, 1952 as a clerk in the purchasing department and worked there until Alcoa started construction of the chemical plant. She worked for the purchasing department on the construction site until the plant was completed. She was then chosen to work in the main office as secretary to the chemical products manager. In 1963 she was promoted to secretary to the personnel manager where she remained until her retirement in 1981. Mildred and her late husband traveled over the United States, Canada and Mexico. They enjoyed water sports, fishing and camping, and were avid fans of Razorback football and basketball. She was a longtime member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class, which she also taught for a few years. Services will be held on Wednesday, December 4 at 10 a.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Jeremy Pressgrove.
