Bryan Roscoe Howerton

Bryan Roscoe Howerton, 87, of Searcy, Ark., passed into eternal life Dec. 5, 2013. Born Dec. 25, 1925 to the late Roscoe and Lucinda (Segraves) Howerton in Black Rock, Ark. Preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and one granddaughter. Survived by his beloved wife, Imogene "Jean" (Freeman); sons, Bryan R. (Cheryl) Howerton, Donald R. (Linda) Howerton; and daughter, Peggy (Bill) Kifer; brother, William (Shirley) Howerton; two grandsons; seven granddaughters; and 16 great-grandchildren. Bryan was a combat veteran of three wars, having served during WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and subsequently retired from the U.S. Air Force after 30 years of Military service. Upon retiring Bryan and Jean moved back to their home state of Arkansas, settling in Searcy. Accompanied by their cherished canine companion, Skoshi, they traveled all the 50 states and Canada playing golf, fishing, hunting and visiting family and friends. Bryan was an avid reader, genealogist, history buff, golfer, and accomplished outdoorsman. He was a lifelong Mason and a member of the Methodist church. Known by his family as a true Patriot, his love of this country was emphasized to his entire family. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013 in the chapel of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home (501)269-3546. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in White County Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to DAV Unit 41 in Searcy, or Paws Inn No-Kill Animal Shelter, also in Searcy. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Summit Hospice Providers for their exceptional care and support. They provided sincere compassion to Bryan and his entire family.
