Elizabeth (Lib) Wilkey Alstadt of Little Rock, passed away on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at the age of 90. She was born in Glenwood, Ark. on Feb. 26, 1923 to Clovis R. and Margaret Travis Wilkey. She was the widow of Dr. Benjamin C. Alstadt, who passed away in 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Moore (Van) of Little Rock, two sons, John Alstadt (Camille) of Booneville, Ark. and Tod Alstadt (Sandy) of Little Rock and a sister, Helen Jackson of Hattiesburg, Miss. Also surviving are a granddaughter, Lisa Fort (David) of Little Rock and three grandsons, Benjamin Alstadt (Suzanne) of Bigelow, Matthew Alstadt (Kelly) of Prattsville, and Zachary Alstadt of Little Rock, along with several nieces and nephews. Lib attended Little Rock Junior College (now UALR) and graduated from LSU with a degree in art. After graduation, she worked for Irving Trust Co. in New York City as a junior auditor. In 1946, Lib married Ben Alstadt, who she met while attending LRJC. They moved to Stuttgart, Ark. where Ben established his dental practice. In 1956, they moved to Little Rock where Ben practiced as a periodontist for many years. In the early 1960's, Lib earned a master's degree in psychology from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway. She worked for many years as a child psychologist for the Little Rock School District and then headed a task force for the Arkansas Health Department to write the state's mental health plan. Unfortunately, she had to retire in 1970 due to macular degeneration. Lib was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Little Rock, which she attended faithfully as long as her health permitted. She had a strong faith in God and often said she never worried about things as she knew God would take care of her. Lib was also very active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Arkansas Dental Auxiliary, and AOII, a women's sorority. She cherished her fellowship with her friends who took her to the symphony and to the REP on a regular basis. As a hobby, Lib enjoyed painting with oils and watercolors and left behind many examples of her works for her family and friends to enjoy. There will be a memorial service for Lib on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1000 No. Mississippi, Little Rock, conducted by The Rev. Danny Schieffler. Interment in the church columbarium will follow. Arrangements by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas (501) 224-8300. The family of Elizabeth Alstadt wants to extend a big "thank you" to the St. Marks supporting family and other close friends for providing her transportation to church, the symphony, The Rep, and other functions which enriched her life. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association Arkansas Chapter or to St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Online guestbook:www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/chenal.
