Martha Jewel Boyd

MARTHA JEWEL BOYD, of Jacksonville, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday on this Christmas Eve. She was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville and served her loved community in many ways. Martha did not allow normal barriers to hold her back, she worked at the Ordinance Plant in Jacksonville during the war. In the 70s she was the first Jacksonville Woman Police Officer. She owned A-Alright Bail Bonds, she was a private detective and served on the state private detective board under Governor Bill Clinton. For many years Martha was a fixture in the office of Sharon's Dance and Gymnastics Studio and operated and owned Dance Etc. Martha also served her city as Alderman for eight years, she was a member of Chamber of Commerce and Sertoma Club. She was director of Miss Jacksonville Pageant for over 20 years. She retired from the court clerk's office in 1998. Martha was an ordained minister and officated many marriages. Martha is preceded in death by her sons James (Jimmy) Minor and Robert (Bobby) Castile, and her mother Grace Beall Faulkner and her sister Cathryn Ellison. Left to cherish her memories are her loving and devoted daughter, Sharon Boyd who was her everything and whom she will never forget; grandchildren, Terri Castile and Bobby (Toni) Castile; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Hayden Castile; niece, Cathy (Preston) Murray, and her beloved dog Skeebo. With a host of many other family and friends who loved her and will miss her deeply. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.
