Dwane Franklin Treat

Dwane Franklin Treat, 80, of Searcy, died peacefully Friday night with family at his side. He was born to the late George and Zella Treat, Nov. 28, 1932, in Spring Valley, Ark. Dwane married Robbie Parish Treat in 1954. Together they lived and served for 58 years in Searcy, Ark. Despite his formal education being limited to just the fourth grade, Dwane became an accomplished 58-year veteran of the automobile business. As an active Master Mason of Searcy Lodge 49, he was a much-loved Demolay Dad, Rainbow Dad, and past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star. For the past 18 years Dwane served as head of Scottish Rite Freemasonry in Arkansas. As an active member of the Supreme Council in Washington, D.C. he contributed to governing the international benevolent work of Freemasonry. During his tenure, the Scottish Rite established several speech and hearing language clinics across Arkansas. Through this charitable work, children who might have remained educationally behind for a lifetime can now speak and write effectively. As a committed advocate of his community, Dwane served as past president of the Searcy Chamber of Commerce. He was also a charter member of the Searcy Optimist Club. As a member of the White County Quorum Court, the Searcy Water Board, and the Searcy Airport Commission Dwane was a faithful public servant. Dwane is survived by his wife Robbie Treat of Searcy; one child, Sherry Treat Gentry of Searcy; two grandchildren, Gabe Gentry of Little Rock and Gavin Gentry of Searcy; and two great-grandchildren,Talyn Brant Gentry and Avyn Bristol Gentry. He is also survived by three brothers, Bill Treat and Daryl Treat of Searcy and Cleve Treat of Pangburn, and one sister, Fern Pledger of Searcy. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and one sister. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to the Arkansas Scottish Rite Foundation. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Downtown Church of Christ in Searcy, Ark.
