Maxine Bowman Lefler, 85, of Conway, Arkansas died following a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, January 7, 2013. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late John Sullivan and Levona Davis Bowman on May 6, 1927 in Russellville, Arkansas. After graduating from Russellville High School, Maxine married and moved to Clinton, Arkansas where she raised her family. She subsequently relocated to Conway, Arkansas in 1981. Maxine was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful cook and had a beautiful rose garden. She was a loving, patient and strong mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Maxine is survived by her five children including Dickie Layton (Becca) of Conway, Tom (Jan) of Fayetteville, Dana Wilcox Barrilleaux (Brian) of Conway, Sam (Joanna) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and James (Missy) of Bryant; six grandchildren Katy Lefler, Lance Lefler, Stuart Lefler, Colby Wilcox, Brandt Lefler, and Alysson Lefler; one brother, Layton (Darlene) Bowman of Mountain Home; and her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Elva, Earl, and Everett Bowman; a sister Loraine Fletcher; and the father of her children, Dickie V. Lefler. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the healthcare providers at Conway Regional Hospital and Hospice Care in Conway. Since she devoted her life to the care of young children, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Step by Step Early Learning Center, 1004 B Street, Perryville, Ark., 72126. A memorial service celebrating Maxine's life will be 4 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2013, in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Conway, 1751 Dave Ward Drive, Conway, Arkansas. 501-327-5000.
