Donald Anthony Laurenzana

Dr. Donald "Don" Anthony Laurenzana was born January 19, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Dr. Frank and Mrs. Mary Laurenzana. "Dr. L," as he was fondly known, passed away January 15, 2013 at the Lakewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Little Rock. As a young man, he was enticed by the beauty of northwest Arkansas, and moved to Fayetteville where he attended the University of Arkansas and graduated in 1966. He then entered medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, graduating in 1971. He was in family practice in North Little Rock and Sherwood for his entire career, retiring in 2009. During medical school and early in his career, he was a member of the Arkansas National Guard. Dr. Laurenzana loved the outdoors, was an avid fly fisherman, and enjoyed tying flies and building bamboo fly rods. His favorite times were spent at his special fishing holes on the Little Red and White Rivers. Dr. Laurenzana is survived by his wife, Theresa Laurenzana of North Little Rock, his daughter, Elizabeth Laurenzana of State College, Pennsylvania, his son, Frank Laurenzana of Boulder, Colorado, stepchildren, Tom and Angela Casteel, and two grandchildren all of North Little Rock. He is also survived by three sisters, Mary Musolf of Hot Springs, Judy Schuele of Clearwater, Florida, and Lola Laurenzana, of Santa Fe, New Mexico and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. L's dear friend, Jay Shearer, for his love and support. The family would like to thank Lakewood Nursing and Rehab staff for their care during the last four months. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, Ark. 72116 (501-791-7400) with Reverend Richard Lancaster pastor of Lakewood United Methodist Church officiating.
