joe Lee Smith

Joe Lee Smith, 85 of Dumas (recently of North Little Rock) passed away Jan 17th after a long struggle with Parkinson's Dementia. He is survived by his wife, Mary Annita (Culp) Smith and his children, Mary Beth Smith Hankins, Joel Nelson Smith (Brenda Prince Smith) and Michael Lee Smith (Deborah Williams Smith) and grandchildren, Tye Geneva Smith, Christopher Michael Smith, T.J. (Timothy Joseph) Smith and James Jordan Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents Mabel Tippy Smith and Chevious Nelson Smith, sister, Clara B. Rana, granddaughter Jolie Leanne Smith. Mr. Smith was born in Plainview, AR, and was a long-time resident of Dumas. He was a retired farm manager for R.A. Pickens and Son Company. He is a graduate of Dumas High School and a graduate of University of Arkansas at Monticello. He served our country in World War II in the Navy and in the Korean War in the Air Force. He was in National Guard and a life-long member of the American Legion. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dumas for many years where he served as a deacon, superintendent of Sunday school, Sunday school teacher and was ever present to help as needed. He was a member of the Gideons. Services will be at the First Baptist Church of Dumas at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Visitation held prior to service beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church Faith Center. He supported numerous charities and organizations so in lieu of flowers please make donations in his name to the charity of your choice. Griffin Funeral Home, Dumas, Ark. is in charges of arrangements.
