George Conery Martin

George Conery Martin, 95, was born July 25, 1917, in Little Rock, Ark. and passed away on Jan. 18, 2013. He worked for 37 years with the U.S. Weather Bureau as a meteorologist, serving in the Arctic Bay in Canada, Detroit in the North Atlantic Weather Patrol, Cape Hatteras, Apalachicola, and across Mexico. He helped establish upper air stations in cooperation with the Mexican government, marrying his beloved wife, Frances Louise Fee, in Mexico City on Jan. 10, 1947. After marrying, they returned to Little Rock where he continued to work with the Bureau until his retirement. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, and family man, and he is survived by his loving wife, Frances Martin; his four children, Mary Branton, James Martin, John Martin, and Agnes Martin; and by his seven grandchildren, Augusta Palmer, Christopher Naylor, Anna Martin, Madeline Branton, Jared Martin, Peter Branton, and Katherine Martin; as well as by his two great-grandchildren, Laila Palmer and Nicholas Arnold. A mass and memorial service will be held on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Memphis, Tenn.
