Burnes Leon Gilbert, 78 of Conway, went home to be with the Lord January 20, 2013. Leon was born June 7, 1934 to Oscar and Hattie (Callahan) Gilbert at Conway. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Conway. Leon was a Korean War Veteran, as well as a lifetime member of the VFW; he was instrumental in starting the VFW Honor Guard in Faulkner County. He loved all veterans, and considered it a privilege to serve them. The family would like to give special thanks to VFW Post #2259 of Conway, for all the love and support they have shown the family. Survivors include his daughter Karen (Andy) Gilbert of Mabelvale; step-children, Crystal (Terry) Malott of Damascus, Brian (Donna) Authier of Conway and Russell Authier of Damascus; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert Gilbert of Mexico; Lavon Robinson, Hazel Bowie and Roberta Lord all of Conway; as well as a multitude of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marilyn and three siblings. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday January 23, 2013 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home (801 8th Ave) in Conway with Bro. Don Taylor and Rev. Matt Hodges officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
