Eva Pearl Frierson McMurray

Mrs. Eva Pearl Frierson McMurray passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013, in Little Rock, Ark. The daughter of the late Arthur Frierson and the late Pearl Montgomery Frierson, she was born May 27, 1931, in Patmos, Arkansas. Mrs. McMurray was a 1951 graduate of Yerger High School in Hope, Ark. A 1955 alumnus of Arkansas AM&N College (now UAPB), she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. McMurray began her professional career in education as a teacher in the Star City Schools. She then served as an elementary teacher in the Dollarway School District for over 30 years before retiring in 1994. A woman of immense and deeply rooted faith, Mrs. McMurray was an active and devoted member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff for over 50 years, where she served as a Deaconess, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Women of the Church group. She was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, the Cosmopolitan Choir, and a lifetime member of the Arkansas AM&N/UAPB Alumni Association. Mrs. McMurray was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, a sister, and her husband, Dr. Vernon F. McMurray Jr. She is survived by two sons, Gerald (Delphia) McMurray of Shreveport, La., and Jeffery (Tracy) McMurray of Rockwall, Texas; one daughter, Vinita (Corey) Hegwood of Mansfield, Texas; four sisters, Ernestine (Morris) Jeffries and Revoyda (William) Buckley of Los Angeles, Calif.; Bernice (Hubert) Donalds and Mattie Davis, of San Francisco, Calif.; five grandchildren- Kristin Askew, Dionna McMurray, Sabrina McMurray, Allyson Hegwood, and Veron Hegwood; a special niece, Dr. Anika T. Whitfield of Little Rock; and many other nieces, nephews, family and loved ones. Services for Mrs. McMurray will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Faith Presbyterian Church, 913 University Drive. Entombment will immediately follow at Memorial Park Cemetery by the P.K. Miller Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2013 at the mortuary.
