Fred Austin Briggs

Fred Austin Briggs, age 87, of Jacksonville passed away, Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his home. He was born November 21, 1925 in DeWitt, Arkansas to the late Shelley and Amy Briggs. Fred was a member of the U.S. Navy where he served during W.W. II and the Korean War. Following his military service, he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service. Fred was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan. He is survived by a son, Fred Briggs Jr. of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother, Bill Briggs of Germantown, Tenn.; sister, Nonnie Carroll of Clarendon, Ark.; nieces, Marta Vandall of Oakland, Tenn., Gynon Moore and Laura Nicastro, both of Memphis, Tenn.; nephews, Bill Briggs Jr. of Memphis, Tenn. and Raymond Whiteside of Jonesboro, Ark.; several great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Bayou Meto Cemetery in Jacksonville.
