Velda Lucille Jones, a resident of Perryville (Perry County) for more than 90 years, died Sunday, June 2, 2013. She was the widow of Thomas F. Jones who preceded her in death in 2003, and the mother of Tommie Lou Jones Wingfield. She was born October 21, 1918, the eldest child of Lillian Anna (Moore) and Luther Clarence Padgett. Lucille graduated from Aplin High School and attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway. She worked in a munitions plant in Little Rock in the buildup to World War II. She retired from the Selective Service System, where she was the face of the local draft office. Later she worked with Tom in the Perry County Clerk's Office and his various enterprises. She was a member of the Perryville Church of Christ. Lucille was living with Tommie in Boca Raton, Florida, at the time of her death from complications of a broken hip. We watched the last game of the Final Four playoffs from the Emergency Room. She is survived by Tommie and husband Vance Wingfield; granddaughter Wendy Kay Wingfield; grandson Mark Thomas Alexander Wingfield and wife Susan Rabacher and great grandson Ben Thomas Alexander Wingfield (all of Boca Raton); sisters Betty Jo Lane of Austin, Texas, and Dorothy Ann Young and husband Kenneth Young of Houston, Texas; nieces, nephews, Wendy Lane Henley, Rebecca Clemons Riley, Kathryn Ann Young, Douglas Eugene Young; aunt, Thelma Moore; and many relatives and friends in Perry County. She would want you to know that she had good times with Ben and that there is an Arkansas Razorback on the Boca mailbox. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening June 6, at Harris Funeral Home in Perryville. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, at the Perryville Church of Christ with Marty Satterfield officiating. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Perryville.
