Louis A. Brents, 88, of Sherwood, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Arkansas Hospice in St. Vincent Hospital, Little Rock. He was born on November 28, 1924 in Cleveland, Arkansas to the late Belle (Phillips) and Alvin G. Brents. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rafel T. Brents of Morrilton. Louis is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Jane (Jean) McLaughlin, his daughter Nelda Brents Jones and son-in-law William Kentley Jones of Sarasota, Florida, grandsons, Andrew Jones and Spencer Jones, both of Greenwich, Connecticut, and brother, Charles Lynn Brents and sister-in-law, Joan of Fort Smith. Also mourning his passing are step-children, Paula Schenebeck of North Little Rock and her daughters, Erin Logan of Jacksonville and Sarah McCalley of Cabot, Jim Schenebeck and his son Colin of Little Rock, and Gerald Schenebeck of Lonoke, and four great-grandchildren. Louis served in the United States Navy during World War II where he saw action in the South Pacific. His service to his country continued when he enlisted in the Arkansas Air National Guard in 1947. When he retired as 189th Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, his military service totaled one day shy of 40 years. He received numerous awards and decorations, including Navy Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Air Force Longevity Service Award ribbon with eight devices. Louis was a long-time member of Victory Baptist Church in Sherwood. He spent his post-retirement years in the service of others. Whatever the request—carpentry work, house remodeling, car repair—the response was always yes. There will be a visitation Friday, June 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at North Little Rock Funeral Home, a Smith Family Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street, with a funeral service beginning at 4 p.m. Louis will be buried with military honors on Saturday, June 8, at 2 p.m. in the Brents Cemetery, Cleveland, Arkansas.
