Carol Ann Crabtree Penick died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 11, 2013. She was born on January 25, 1947, in Little Rock to her beloved parents, the late Ted and Dorothy Crabtree. She graduated from Little Rock Central High and attended Arkansas State Teachers College. While there, she earned a Master's degree in English and was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. Carol Ann taught English at Parkview High School for six years before deciding to stay home and raise her children. She later went back to work in the residential real estate business. She was known as the "Downtown Diva," because she found a special niche for selling downtown Little Rock Victorian homes. Carol Ann enjoyed a long career working with her friends and colleagues at Adkins, McNeill, Smith & Associates. Although she enjoyed her work life, her primary passion was her family. She embraced the role as "Zsa Zsa" to her three grandchildren. Carol Ann's most treasured times were those spent at the beach with her family. She loved walks on the beach, outlet mall shopping, and polishing off an entire key lime pie with a Diet Coke. Carol Ann was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church where she enjoyed worshipping with her church family and being a member of the "Pew Crew". She also enjoyed gardening and grew the most beautiful hydrangeas in town. She is survived by her children, Edward "Ted" Penick III and his wife, Jill and Erica Penick Kimball and her husband, David. She has three grandchildren, Ted, Worth, and Cate Penick. She is also survived by her sister, Pat Dillahunty, her two nephews, Lew and Bryan Dillahunty, and her Lhasa Apso, Heidi. Her family and friends will miss her beautiful smile, colorful wardrobe, and larger than life personality. If you ever met Carol Ann Penick, you would never forget her. The family would like to thank the doctors, nursing, and staff at UAMS and her devoted caregivers (Dorothy, Janie, Emma, and Pearl) for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church Worship Ministries, 4823 Woodlawn, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72205. Visitation will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home on Thursday, June 13, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception.
