Associate Circuit Court Judge Larry Meyer, age 71, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away at 8:27 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born January 6, 1942 in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, the son of the late Walter and Ruby (Kirkpatrick) Meyer. On June 24, 1966, he married Sandy Smith in Little Rock, Arkansas. Judge Meyer was a 1960 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, in 1964 and his Juris Doctorate degree in 1967 from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. He returned to Lawrence County after graduation and practiced law in Aurora for over 30 years and served as the City Attorney for Aurora for many years. He was elected as the Associate Circuit Court Judge of Lawrence County in 1998 and was reelected in 2002 and 2006. When he retired at the end of 2010, a large public celebration of his esteemed legal and judicial careers was held at the courthouse. He has actively served his community in numerous civic organizations including the Aurora Board of Education, Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Aurora Hospital Board, Aurora Economic Development, serving as president in each of these organizations. In 1975, he was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Missouri State Board of Education and served as its president from 1977 to 1978. He also served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aurora. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 47 years, Sandy; two sons, Larry Wayne Meyer Jr. MD and his wife, Tracy, of Ozark, and Steven Craig Meyer MD and his wife, Chrissy, of Columbia; one daughter, Meredith Meyer-Cipra and her husband, Matt, of St. Louis; six grandchildren, Audrey and Nicholas Meyer, Abby and Carly Meyer, and August and David Cipra; one brother, Steve Meyer and his wife, Rebecca, of Dallas, Texas; and a dear cousin, Ken Meyer. A funeral service, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church of Aurora with burial at the Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m., prior to the service, in the church sanctuary. Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in care of the funeral home.
