Thaddeus Eldean Stanton, 87, of Conway, passed away on June 17, 2013, at Covenant Care of Greenbrier. He was born on March 15, 1926, on Horseshoe Mountain to Claude and Roma McMillan Stanton. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Eldwin, J.O. and W.C. Stanton; and sister, Libby Clements. Also in heaven to greet him is his granddaughter, Olivia Grace. Thad was raised in the Bono Community. After graduation from Greenbrier High School in 1944, he joined the Army. He served with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in combat. He attended ASTC (now UCA) then worked for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in Arkansas and Conway Counties. Beginning in 1966, he was part of the construction crew for Toadsuck Lock and Dam, where he was later made lockmaster in 1969. He retired in 1990. Thad was active in the Conway Rotary, where he served as president. He was also involved in the Faulkner County Historical Society, Cadron Settlement Park Committee and the Conway Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Janelle Wilcox Stanton; son, Dr. Michael Stanton (Denise) of Conway; daughters, Nancy LeMaster (Gray) of Little Rock and Susan Gray (Glenn) of Conway; grandsons, Luke, Zack (Molly), Spencer (Ashley), Caleb, Isaac, Gabriel, Silas and Eli Stanton; Jeff(Beka), Jacob (Leighann), Will (Kathryn) and Seth (Sarah) LeMaster; granddaughters, Jessica (Daniel) Huddleston, Hailey (Evan) Johnson and Anna Gray; great-grandchildren, Cosette and Cora LeMaster, Conner, Shepherd, Julia, and Olivia Stanton. Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the funeral home. Serving as Pallbearers will be Luke, Zack, Spencer and Caleb Stanton, Jeff, Jacob, Will, and Seth LeMaster. Honorary Pallbearers are Gabe, Silas, Eli, Isaac, and Tom Stanton, Billy Wayne Clements, Evan Johnson and Daniel Huddleston. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bono Baptist Church, 414 Hwy 285 East, Greenbrier, Ark., 72058.
