Betty Brown Dunaway, 89, of Conway, went to be with her Heavenly Father, Saturday June 22, 2013. She was born June 19, 1924 in Texarkana, AR to the late Layman Beckett and Nell Dixon Brown. Betty was also preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, James Arthur Dunaway, and one sister, Mary Catherine Martin. Betty was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Conway and later a founding member of Grace United Methodist Church. She received a Master of Arts Degree from Northwestern University in Evansville, IL and a Master of Science Degree in Education from UCA. Betty was a member of Pi Beta Phi Alumnae in Texarkana. She taught English at Conway High School from 1967 to 1970 and served on the school board before becoming a real estate agent. Betty and Pete Hart opened a real estate agency in 1975 and were affiliated with Century 21. This was one of the first agencies in the state to be affiliated with Century 21 in 1978. They saw this as an avenue to do what they both loved which was selling houses that became homes. What they didn't know was that their company would become one of the longest lasting real estate companies in Conway and one of the top Century 21 offices in Arkansas. Betty was named Realtor of the Year for 1987 by the Conway Board of Realtors. In 1988, The Conway Board of Realtors presented its Hall Of Fame Award to Betty, who was the first woman to receive the Hall Of Fame Award. Betty was an avid golfer and was runner up in the Arkansas State Women's Golf Tournament on several occasions. She once played a round of golf with legendary sportswoman Babe Diedrickson Zaharias. In 1953 Mrs. Betty Dunaway was a leading contender in The Arkansas Women's Golf Tournament and advanced to the meets semifinals. Betty is survived by two sons, Dr. Geoffrey Dunaway and wife Linda of Harrison, Ark. and Dr. Edwin Dunaway and wife Sharon of Conway, grand-children, Layman and Ryan Dunaway, Alexis and husband Aubrey and one great grandson, Collin Lee Ralls. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday June 29th at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway (501) 327-7727, with Associate Pastor Reggie Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Layman Dunaway, Ryan Dunaway and nephews Scott Martin, Gary Martin, Mike Martin and grandson-in-law, Aubrey Ralls. Visitation is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday June 28th at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Home Instead for their help with assisted living over the last several years.
