Freddie ("Fred") Lee Jones, passed away on June 25, 2013. Fred was the seventh child born to James Jones, Jr. and Ermer Mae Jones on August 8, 1951, in Gould, Arkansas. He shared a loving upbringing with his eleven siblings, all of whom he dearly loved. He graduated from high school in Gould and shortly after moved to Little Rock to further his education. He obtained his Bachelors in Political Science from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and his Masters in Public Administration from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Fred was a long time member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church and lived the majority of his life as a believer in Jesus Christ. While attending the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, he met a fellow student by the name of Marilyn Noel. They later married, and had four daughters. His daughters were his pride and joy. Some of his fondest memories include taking his girls to and from various extracurricular activities and attending their performances. Fred was an educator. He spent nearly twenty-five years with the Little Rock School District teaching young people American History and Civics and challenging them academically. One of his proudest moments was fighting to keep his students safe by ensuring a traffic signal was installed on a busy four lane street outside Henderson Junior High. His stern but caring demeanor made him a favorite teacher of many of his students. He loved early morning drives with Marilyn and peaceful time to write, read and reflect. Fred was an avid news watcher and never tired of having discussions about the latest political events, history, sports, or entertainment news. He looked forward to visits from his grandchildren and enjoyed spending quality time with them. He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Marilyn (Noel) Jones; his daughters, Candice Jones, Victoria (Jones) Keith, Shannon (Jones) Harmon, Cassandra Jones; his siblings, Alfred Jones (Ozella), Eddye Ruth Jones, Bettye (Jones) Conyer (Willie), Earl J. Jones, Leonard Jones (Darlene), Melvin Jones (Thelma); his sons-in-law, Curtis Harmon and Lemar Keith; his grandchildren, Nathaniel and Luke Harmon; and countless extended family. Freddie was preceded in death by his beloved parents James Jr. and Ermer Mae (Weston) Jones and his siblings Theodore Jones, James Jones III, Joe Jones, Leroy Jones, and Sharon (Jones) Refeld. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013, at St. John Baptist Church, 2501 Main Street, Little Rock, Arkansas, with the Reverend C. Dennis Edwards I officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, from 6-7 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Park by the P.K. Miller Mortuary of Pine Bluff.
