Carlton Avery Cummings of Sheridan, Arkansas was born May 13, 1932 in Prescott, Arkansas, the son of the late Clyde Isaac and Addie Avery Cummings. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sheridan, had been past president of Grant County Farm Bureau, and for 19 years had served on the Sheridan City Council. He had also been involved with the Boy Scouts for many years as well as a member of the Sheridan Lions Club, Order of Eastern Star and a Mason. After retirement, he enjoyed substituting for the Sheridan School District. Mr. Cummings died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Saline Memorial Hospice in Bryant at the age of 81. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Arlene Harper and his brother, Elton Cummings. Survivors, wife, Carolyn Harris Cummings of Sheridan; sons, Darryl and wife Kelley Cummings of Austin, Texas; Jerry and wife Julie Cummings of Ocala, Florida; daughter, Marilyn Yates of Sheridan; eight grandchildren, Chris Yates, Will Yates, Cameron Cummings, Spencer Cummings, Jerry Wayne Cummings, Jeffrey Cummings, Justine Phillips and Josh Phillips, five great-grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Embrey officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will be Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Prescott.
