Gloria J. Howell Hendricks

Gloria J. Howell Hendricks, died January 17, 2013, Dallas, Texas. Born in Gurdon, Arkansas 1925. Raised in Cabot and Gurdon. Spent wonderful days visiting her aunt and cousins in Malvern. Married Sterling Tatum Hendricks in Little Rock April 1946, built their life in Garland, Texas 1951. Preceded in death in 2000 by her beloved Tatum of 54 years and in 1967 by her cherished son Sterling Craig Hendricks, killed in Vietnam. Survived by children: Sherrill Hendricks, Alexandria, Va.; Kent Hendricks and wife Inja, California; Carter and wife Amber of Austin and their two children and two stepsons; Lisa Hendricks, Dallas; granddaughter, Stephanie Hendricks, Garland and her daughter. Anchored by strong faith, dearly loved and admired by family, friends, her children's friends, neighbors. Known for unconditional love, grace, kindness, resilience, thoughtfulness, humor, intelligence, integrity. Gloria dearly loved and was devoted to her grandchildren. An avid reader and lover of books until her last day. A wonderful mother who instilled strong values in her children and gave them room to pursue their own interests. Her philosophy was to "let them go, but keep them close to her heart." Memorial Service was held Jan. 26 at Unity Church of Christianity Dallas on Greenville Ave. Inurnment with her husband at DFW National Cemetery.
