Barbara Creger Richey

Barbara Creger Richey, age 92, of Rock Island, Illinois formally of Little Rock, Arkansas died March 13 at Silver Cross Nursing Center of Friendship Manor in Rock Island, Illinois. A service will be held at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, Iowa on Friday, March 22 at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Following the service burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery. Barbara was born on September 11, 1920 in Grinnell, Iowa to Carl and Gladys Jones. She attended public schools in Grinnell and Newton, Iowa. Barbara spent most of her adult life in Little Rock, Arkansas where she was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years. Much of her working life was spent with the Arkansas Revenue Department in Little Rock where she served as Supervisor of the Income Tax Division retiring in 1980. Barbara married Ralph Creger in 1941 and a second marriage to Harry Richey in 1980. During her lifetime, she loved spending time with family and her friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great joy to her. She enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, square dancing and bowling. Survivors (and spouses/partner) include her sons Carl (Lesley) of Rock Island, Illinois and Jerry Creger of Seattle, Washington. Grandchildren Christy Creger Jackson (Stuart) of Little Rock, Arkansas and Carlton Creger (Susan) of Rock Island, Illinois; step-grandchildren Matthew (Ken) Haynes of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Simon (Karyn) Haynes of Benton, Arkansas and Gail (Shayne) McGaughy of Johnston, Iowa; 10 great-grandchildren and special friend Virginia Buck of Little Rock, Arkansas. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and husband Harry. The family of Barbara Richey wishes to thank the staff at Friendship Manor and Silver Cross Nursing of Rock Island, Illinois for their superb care, love and support during her later years. Her caregivers were like family to her. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island, Illinois Rotary Club care of Pence –Reese Funeral Home at 310 N 2nd Avenue E, Newton, Iowa 50208-3244.
