Mary Sue Sanford Althen, age 72, of North Little Rock, passed away March 19, 2013. She was born December 7, 1940, the only child of Sloan McKinney Sanford and Nettie Laramore Sanford. She graduated from Searcy High School in 1958 and enrolled at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She took a break from school while raising children and enjoying involvement in church activities, being a Girl Scout troop leader, supporting Annie Camp Junior High and Jonesboro High School athletics, sewing, camping, and raising pets. She attended Arkansas State University, graduating in 1985 with a degree in accounting and soon earning a CPA. She is survived by her two daughters, Kathryn Howerton Harris and husband Alvin Harris of Nashville, TN, and Melissa Howerton Cannon of North Little Rock, and four grandchildren, Jeffrey Harris, Natalie Harris, David Cannon, and Phillip Cannon. She will be remembered for her kindness and compassion, her love of family and friends, her laughter, and her faith in God. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 22 at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home of Searcy. Guestbook www.rollerfuneral homes.com. Gravesite Service will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Searcy on Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m. In honor and celebration of her joy of life and unconventional spirit, bright attire is encouraged. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society or other organization that takes care of the special creatures who give unconditional love, one of the wonderful characteristics of Mary Sue.
