Joseph Lee Harris, born April 6, 1930 to Louis and Alice Harris, died December 12, 2012 after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of lung cancer in October 2012. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Harris (Dawson) of Pine Bluff, his parents and his sister Norma Don. He is survived by his five children, Deborah Harris-Meek of Torrance, Jackie Reynolds-Thompson of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Alicia Harris-Erlemann of Lucas, Texas, Rebecca Harris of Tucson, Arizona, and Craig Harris of Gallivare, Sweden survive him. He had 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Born in Paducah, Kentucky, he grew up in Pine Buff, Arkansas. Joe attended Pine Bluff High School, Class of 47, and then attended the University of Southeastern Arkansas where he studied Forest Management. The family moved to the South Bay Area of California in the early 1950's, where he worked for E.L. Pearson as a Field Engineer/Surveyor until retiring in the early 1990s. He was very active his entire life enjoying walking, bike riding, motorcycle riding, flying private airplanes, traveling, camping, hunting, fishing and tinkering in the garage on cars, boats, motorcycles, lawnmowers, etc. He was never without a project(s). He was interested and fascinated by everything and was forever seeking knowledge for the sake of knowing. He lived a life filled to the brim with valuable experiences and a myriad of adventures. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. A graveside service will be held at Fitzhugh Cemetery, 1 and 1/2 miles from Sulphur Springs on CR20/Camden Cut Off road, on March 29th at 3 p.m. A reception will follow at Harbor Oaks Country Club, the Conference Room, from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the National Arbor Foundation to plant trees in Joe's name in our National Forests or to the American Lung Association.
