John D. "Jack" Stevenson, 89, of Batesville died Friday March 29, 2013 at a local hospital. He was born July 19, 1923 in Murphysboro, Ill. and was the son of John William Stevenson and Ethel Emma Horstman Stevenson. Jack was a veteran of the US Army Air Force and served during World War II. He was an engineer and personnel manager at White-Rodgers Manufacturing Company in Batesville until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He was a people person, a good listener and always had a smile. Jack was very proud of his Scottish heritage. He was a member of the SAE Fraternity at the University of Illinois and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Batesville. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Barbara St. Clair Stevenson of Batesville; a son, John David Stevenson Jr. of Columbus, Ga.; five grandchildren, Steven Lopez of Edmond, Okla., Daniel Lopez of Houston, Texas, Andy Lopez of Oklahoma City, Okla., Robert Lopez of Colorado Springs, Colo. and US Army Lieutenant Michael Stevenson of Fort Bragg, N.C.; and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Katherine Stevenson Lopez. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Oaklawn Cemetery with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Batesville with Pastors Bob and Kay Burton officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor after the memorial service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 615 E.
