Hazel Earlene Jones

Hazel Earlene Jones, 85 of Searcy, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013. She was born in Sidon, Arkansas on December 29, 1927 to Sanford and Effie Mae Hopper. She grew up in Sidon but graduated from Searcy High in 1945. She and her husband, Verlon D. Jones Sr., celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in March of 2013. Earlene enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, crocheting, and spending time with her grandkids. She was very well liked by everyone that she met and was always active in her community. Reading was one of her favorite pastimes and she was known for regularly reading to the patients at the local retirement homes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Searcy and was also an active member of the Smyrna Ladies Club where she participated in many community events, such as the County Fair. Survivors include her husband, Verlon D. Jones, Sr., a son, Randall Lee Jones of Little Rock, a daughter, Connie Suzanne McCann of Maumelle, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, siblings, Merlin Hopper of Mountain Home and Glenn Hopper of Heber Springs, and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sanford and Effie Mae Hopper, a son, Verlon D. Jones, Jr., and siblings, Norma Hopper, Gerald Hopper, Carroll Hopper, Wilton Hopper and Lynn Hopper. The Family would like to thank the staff of Arkansas Hospice for the care and compassion that they showed to both Earlene and Verlon. They were a blessing to the entire family. Funeral Service will be Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 2 PM at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home in Searcy. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Internment will follow in the Sidon Cemetery.
