Alfred Asa McLaughlin, age 84, of Arkadelphia, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in Arkadelphia. He was born May 25, 1929 in Altus, Oklahoma, the son of the late Jack E. and Jewel D. Honeyman McLaughlin. Mr. McLaughlin was a retired mechanical engineer with Reynolds Metals Co. and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Arkadelphia First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, sang in the church choir and was part of the Young at Heart Singers. Al was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Arkadelphia Masonic Lodge # 381 and the Al Amin Shrine Temple in Corpus, Christi, Texas. Al was a lifetime Dallas Cowboy and Texas Longhorn fan. His hobbies include R. C. aircraft, airplane model making, playing golf and traveling. His greatest love was his beloved, Margaret and his children, Lynda, Steve and Kim. Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Margaret J. McLaughlin; one son, Steven A. McLaughlin and wife, Eileen of Leesburg, Virginia; two daughters, Kimberly J. Williams and husband, Byron of Bismarck, Arkansas, Lynda M. Dolgner and husband, Kenneth of Spring, Texas; one brother, B.J. McLaughlin of Bogata, Texas; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5th at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home with Dr. Lee McGlone officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Arkadelphia First Baptist Church. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the hospital, E. R. and I.C.U. staff at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia for their excellent care given to Al.
