John Henry Brandt, 95, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2013. John was born in Carlisle on April 2, 1918 to Edward and Edith Brandt. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Edward and his daughter, Cheryl Brandt Prince. John is survived by his wife of 74 years, Odene Brandt; daughter, Barbara Kilgore; son-in-law, Royce Prince; daughter-in-law, Venus Brandt; grandchildren, Kelli Moore, Lora Lee Brandt, John Brandt, Amy Stricklin, Alison Wingfield, John Prince, Royce Anne Henley, and Brandt Prince; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren and a loving friend, Sonny Skillern. John grew up working with his father learning the blacksmith trade. At the age of 16, he took over the business and began making farm equipment to accommodate the rice farmers in Carlisle. His son, Edward, joined him in 1963, and together they built a successful business designing and manufacturing land levelers, grain carts, and other farm equipment. John was a strong Christian man who loved God and walked with him daily. He was a charter member and deacon of Immanuel Baptist Church in Carlisle. He lived to be one of the oldest citizens of Carlisle and loved to tell stories about the early days there. He was truly a "book of knowledge" about Carlisle's history, early events, and the people who lived there. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5,2013 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Carlisle. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
