Frankie Laverne Henderson Buchanan

Frankie Laverne Henderson Buchanan, Fayetteville, Ark., formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away peacefully in hospital Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013. She was 75. Her daughter, Lauri Buchanan Cook, was at her bedside. Frankie was born Aug. 27, 1938 to Lector and Mae Henderson in Frankston, Texas. She graduated from Frankston High School valedictorian of her class. After college at North Texas State College (now University of North Texas), Frankie married Larry Buchanan and moved with him to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she was a full-time homemaker and mother, volunteer and civic worker. She served briefly as financial director for the Cedar Rapids Symphony. Following divorce, Frankie accumulated further school credits and worked for several years in college administration at Kirkwood Community College, before moving to Fayetteville, Ark. where she opened, owned and operated her own clothing store, "Second Act - South" until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Maxine, Dallas, Texas. In addition to her daughter, Lauri (Scott) and grandson, William, Omaha, Neb., Frankie is survived by her sisters, Nelda Melton and Elaine (J.A.) Griffin and her brothers, Harold (Betty) Henderson and Ronnie (Pat) Henderson, Frankston, plus numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Memorial services and internment are planned in Frankston. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to any local women's shelter.
