Harrell D. Bates

Harrell D. Bates, 74, of Conway, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. He was born Sept. 4, 1939 in Conway, Ark. to the late Matthew "Boss" and Era Swayze Bates. Harrell made the most of his life here in Conway starting Bates Furniture along with his wife Vivian. He was devoted to his family, business and hobbies. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vivian Luyet Bates; five sons, James (Lisa) Bates of Conway, David (Candy) Bates of Tuttle, Okla., Terry (Stacey) Bates of Conway, Roger (Stephanie) Bates of Conway, Kevin (Jennifer) Bates of Sherwood; two daughters, Cindy Bates of Conway, Cheryl Bates of Conway; nine grandchildren, Matthew Bates, Lauren Heathscott, Drew Bates, Zachary Bates, Jacob Bates, Brandon Bates, Julia Bates, Will Bates, Lily Bates; one sister, Selma "Jean" Ball of Sherwood. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Darrell Bates, Stephen Bates; two sisters, Lucille Wilson, Corrine Bright. Pallbearers: Matthew Bates, Zachary Bates, Jacob Bates, Drew Bates, Nick Heathscott, Dodd Harmon. Honorary pallbearers: Brandon Bates, Will Bates. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conway, with Deacon Jerry Joe Harrison officiating. Visitation will be at the church Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. with a Rosary at 6 pm. Burial will be at Crestlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the following organizations; St. Joseph School Endowment, St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith, Toad Suck Car Club Scholarship Fund, MOTAA Antique Car Museum.
