Gladys Peeples Davis, age 87, of Malvern, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. She was born in Arkadelphia, Ark. on March 29, 1926 to Ruben and Ina Reed Peeples. She attended Ouachita Baptist College, now OBU, and taught school in Okolona, Dermott, and Eudora before moving to Malvern and marrying Wayne Davis in 1953. After being a stay-at-home mother until her children reached Junior High age, she started the kindergarten at First Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching it half a day for 12 years. Her church membership spanned 60 years. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wayne Davis, and two sisters; Jo Graves and Sammia Nottingham. She is survived by two brothers; Dr. Raymond Peeples of Little Rock and Dr. George Peeples of Gurdon. Also surviving her are her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Steve Hoffmann of Little Rock; and her son, Dr. Paul W. Davis of White Hall, Ark. "Glad" or "Gladdie" as she was fondly called, will be greatly missed by her children as well as her six grandchildren: Brett (Amy) Hoffmann, Ken Hoffmann, Allison Grace Hoffmann, Amanda (Curt) Whitlock, Meredith (Russell) Wilson, and Melissa (Daniel) Ballou, one "adopted" grandson; Brian Edelmann, and two great-grandchildren; Breanna Davis and Emmett Wilson. Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-2 Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 22, 2013 at First Baptist Church, 531 South Main Street, with the funeral immediately following, officiated by Mr. Michael Walls. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 531 South Main Street. Malvern, Ark. 72104.
