Clyde Scott, Sr.

Clyde Kelley Scott Sr., age 82, of Benton, passed away Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. He was born Oct. 11, 1931 in Benton, Ark. Mr. Scott graduated from Benton High School in 1950 and went on to serve in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Scout Master, BSA in Troop 33 located in Benton. In 1964, he attended the National Jamboree in Valley Forge, Pa. In 1965 and 1972, he attended the Philmont Scout Ranch. In 1969, he attended the National Jamboree in Farragut State Park, Idaho and in 1973 he was a Silver Beaver Recipient. Mr. Scott was a member of Holland Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, the American Legion, and the Saline County Historical Society for 40 years. He retired from the United States Postal Service. Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde O'Kelley Scott and Lois Lucille Leech Scott. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Laverne Scott; daughter, Tonya Gilmore (Jim); son, Clyde Kelley Scott, Jr.; two sisters, Dorcas Scott Rea and Bonnie Lee Ward; granddaughter, Lauren Strayer and a great-grandson, Richard Jaramillo. Pallbearers will be Sam Samples, Gene Moss, John Jackson, Tim Ward, Carlton Cushing and Jim Gilmore. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Ashby Funeral Home.
