Gladys Rosalind Greenway

Gladys Rosalind Dungan Greenway, 88, of Hot Springs, Ark. passed away peacefully on Oct. 18, 2013. Gladys was born May 5, 1925 in Boydell, Ark. and spent her youth in Dermott. She married her high school sweetheart, Jackie L. Greenway on Oct. 22, 1946. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a Federal Service Employee and at a POW camp as an accountant. The family moved to California in 1950 with their first two children, Gail and Rosemary, and Gladys spent her next 16 years as a homemaker and brought three more children into the fold; Robbie, Jack Jr., and Steven (Pete). She then pursued a successful career in social work with the Contra Costa County Social Services Department spiraling rapidly to become an Eligibility worker. She left that career in 1971 when Jack Sr., retired and they returned to Arkansas where they made Rison their home. Gladys began yet another career at the City of Pine Bluff for the City Engineering and Wastewater Management Department until her last retirement in 1990. In 1993, they both really retired and moved to Hot Springs to enjoy life on Lake Hamilton. Gladys enjoyed many social activities with a circle of friends. She was an amazing culinary genius and a formidable game player specializing in whipping everyone at SCRABBLE. Gladys is survived by her children; Gail Baker (Mike), Robbie Bell (Mike), and Steven (Pete) Greenway (Pam); sisters, Patricia Raney (Sheridan, Ark.), Bobbi Sue Williams (Allen, Texas), and Sharon English (Eugene, Ore.). She has 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Gladys is predeceased by her daughter, Rosemary Frager Greenway; husband Jack L. Greenway Sr.; and son, Jack L. Jr. Services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home, 155 Section Line Road, Hot Springs, Ark. 71913. Guests may register at www.caruth-hale.com
