Jessie Lou Turner Hayes Cadow

JESSIE LOU TURNER HAYES CADOW, 65 of Sherwood, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, after surviving cancer three times. Jessie was born April 28, 1948 in Bruce, Miss. to the late Jessie Doyle and Lucy Ann Turner. She was born again when her father lead her to salvation at the age of 11 in August of 1959 at Myrtle Baptist Church, Myrtle, Miss., pastored by Dr. Percy Ray. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 33 years, Billy F. Hayes; brother, Dr. Gwin T. Turner, pastor of Marina Cathedral Baptist Church; and step-son Kenneth Hayes. Jessie graduated in 1966 from Myrtle High School, Myrtle, Miss. There she was voted Most Talented, she was a Beauty Queen, President of the Beta Club, member of the Honor Society, and received the Leadership Award. She received Associate Degrees in Math and Accounting from Blue Mountain Baptist College for Women in 1968. At Blue Mountain, she was on the Dean's List, member of the Beta Club, and talent winner at Ole Miss University Beta Convention. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in North Little Rock, First Baptist Church of Gravel Ridge in Sherwood, and North Hills Baptist in Sherwood. Singing gospel and piano were Jessie's life. She sang in various trios, quartets and choral groups from the age of 5. She sang in an all-girls barbershop quartet from the age of six until she was out of college, called The Camp Zion Quartet, and with her father and brother made up The Turner Trio. Her mother accompanied her on piano. Her mother and father were both music teachers in voice, music theory and piano, but she could not read music, the only family member who couldn't. She also sang in many different groups in high school and college. While in college, she was offered a chance to be lead singer in a rock band because of her talent, but turned it down because she knew in her heart that was not for her. She also was offered a chance to be in the Miss Mississippi contest because of youth, beauty, and talent, but turned it down out of respect for her parents who did not approve of her being in public in a swimsuit. That would have hurt them very much. She totally enjoyed singing with Steve Huddleston for 33 plus years. When they sang together, each one could tell which way the other one was going with the tenor and alto even without ever practicing. They sang along with Bill at Gravel Ridge Baptist with others as a quartet. After Bill went to be with the Lord, Roy came along or we must say God sent him this way, and her singing with Roy was a blessing to all of us. Jessie, Roy, June Sanders, Bettie and Jim Harkey had a ministry to the assisted living facility at Elmcroft. Jessie is survived by companion Roy R. Cadow; daughter Kitina Hayes Halpine and husband Billy of Lonoke, step-daughter Tonyia Hayes Haynes and husband Eric of Little Rock; grandchild Lexxi Halpine and step-grandchildren Quincy Haynes and Dustyn Hayes; sister-in-law Norma Turner of Los Angeles, Ca.; Roy's seven children, William, Bonny, Donna, Diane, Roy Jr., and Toni; two nieces, one nephew, and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
