GLADYS WOODS HOLLAND, 104, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013. She was born on May 1, 1909 to Jerry James Cantrell and Mollie Tier; she was the youngest of eight children. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Edwin Woods and Paul Holland; all her siblings and one grandson, James Woods. She is survived by two sons, Benjamin Woods (Victoria) of Sherwood, Ark. and Edwin Woods (Melba) of Tampa, Fla. Known lovingly as ‘Mammaw" she is survived by five grandchildren, Ed Woods (Heidi) of Washington, DC, Kimberly Gorter (Gerrit) of Little Rock, Ark., Mona Burris (Darren) of Sherwood, Ark., Tom Woods of Fairbanks, Alaska and Jerry Woods of Sherwood, Ark.; 14 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Gladys held many jobs but her passion was playing the piano and gospel singing. She started singing on KLRA with the Twin City Trio then performed professionally with the Uncle Mac Quartet during the 1940s. She continued her love of music as the pianist at the Rose City Immanuel Baptist Church for 40 years. In 1994, she was presented an award from the Arkansas State Singing Convention for her outstanding service in the promotion of gospel music. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road in North Little Rock. Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with burial to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.
